Doberman Pinscher

Dobie is a new arrival, having come to California recently from Hawaii, where he was scheduled for euthanasia. His circumstances aren't completely clear, but it seems that the person who "saved" him then did not want him, and he ended up in the home of a couple with several other dogs, where he was welcomed and played/ran the yard with the other resident dogs. This couple could not keep him because of the number of dogs already residing there, so they asked us to help. After Dobie's arrival here, we learned that he had had an altercation with another dog, and when restrained, he bit the hand of the person who restrained him. This may have contributed to his not being wanted by the person who had originally saved him. Though he did well with the couple's other dogs, he did not do well here when introduced to a sweet young female Dobie; he attacked her immediately and would not voluntarily stop attacking her. Because of this, we think Dobie is not a dog that can go to dog parks or dog beaches, and he'll probably need to wear a muzzle when walked where other dogs are present so that he can't get himself in trouble. He's charming and lovable with people, so a single-dog home with adults who prefer to stay home most of the time and have their dogs with them at home, would be the best possible scenario. Dobie is a young adult and on the small side at about 55 pounds, and he's housebroken.
