M is a new addition at the rescue because her owner could no longer keep her. She's a beautiful girl, about 4 1/2 years old and in great health. On the plus side, she is not destructive, not a digger, doesn't jump fences, is housebroken and has lots of obedience training. The main problem she had in her home was that she bonded deeply with the owner and would be aggressive towards the other dog (a large male) every time he came around. She displayed similar behavior when people approached her owner with her around as well. While some may see this behavior as "protective" we see it as resource guarding. She is a deeply insecure dog and the behavior is really a defensive outburst. She needs someone who can control her anxiety, not feed her insecurity and can help her make better choices when faced with the presence of someone new. She will also need someone patient since she doesn't accept affection right away from people she doesn't know She needs a home with limited or no traffic of people in and out and a very experienced, strong leader (mentally) to get her to a better place behaviorally. We believe M can get there and would love to see her get that opportunity.
