          In Memory of Hope

Hope was a beautiful, one-eyed, blue female that stole our hearts in only the few days we knew her.  We got her from an animal shelter knowing she was special needs but not knowing just how bad off she was.  We were told she had been walked in to the shelter as a stray but we can't imagine that was really true because the girl we picked up was in so much pain that she couldn't even stand.  More than likely, she was left there by her owners who lied so they wouldn't have to pay a fee or get in trouble and figured the shelter would put her to sleep so they wouldn't have to.  So she sat in the shelter for a week, alone, scared, and in pain.  We took her to our vet and found out she had a massive infection from a ruptured elbow and advanced bone cancer.  We all decided that the kindest thing we could for her would be to humanely put her down.  She got several days of yummy food,
lots of hugs, and she passed away in the most peaceful way possible, surrounded by people that loved her.  Even though we only knew her for a few days, tears were shed when she passed and she really made an impact on all of us with her sweet, loving nature.  Despite her incredible pain, she was patient and affectionate.  We don't know what her life was like before ending up at the shelter but we can be sure that she lived her last few days in as much comfort and happiness as we could provide.  We created this page to remember Hope and all those like her that have passed on but still live in the hearts of the people that loved them.  If a member of your canine family has crossed over that rainbow bridge but you would like to remember them here then please send us a picture and any words you would like to share.  We would also appreciate any donations you would like to make in memory of your beloved friend so we can continue to give more deserving souls a place to call home before they too leave this world.  Thank you to Hope for coming in to our lives and thank you to all of you that continue to support the amazing dogs at Dobies and Little Paws Rescue.
You can send your pictures and loving words to our webmaster at LeapsandBounds@hughes.net to see your dearly departed doggies posted here.
My husband & I adopted Scully (I named her after my favorite "X-Files" character!) from Dobies and Little Paws Rescue over 11 years ago. She was a white toy poodle with a tiny frame and a huge personality. I saw her on petfinder.com and just knew she was the one. We drove up from San Diego to Fillmore to get her. There are no words to describe how much we deeply loved her and how she enriched our lives in ways I never imagined. We took her everywhere! with us in her little doggie tote bag, which she eagerly ran and jumped into when she sensed we were leaving the house. She never cared where we went as long as she could go with us. Exactly 2 years ago she lost her long battle with congestive heart failure. We were, and forever will be, heartbroken. Our only solace was that she died peacefully at home in our arms. Not a day goes by that I don't think of her and miss her terribly, but I remember, too, how happy I am she came into our lives and wouldn't give up those memories for anything. Thank you to Dobies and Little Paws Rescue & their supporters for saving her. Without you we would have never experienced the joy Scully brought into our lives. I've made a donation to Dobies and Little Paws Rescue in memory of Scully for the amazing work they do.

My husband and I love all animals, but Finnegan McCool was one-of-a-kind! He shared his 6 and half years with us, and brought us so much love and laughter! So smart, easy-going, and so handsome. He passed away with Dilated Cardiomyopathy 3 years ago, in our arms, knowing he was safe and  loved. We will never forget him, and will love seeing him again someday.
