Monica came to us on January 5, 2021 from a family that had found her, couldn't keep her, but transported her to us from her animal shelter after she had served her stray period and was unclaimed. Her age was estimated at about 1 year, and she's been a sweet and social dog with people. The biggest challenge is secure confinement for Monica. If crated, she can and has broken out of a crate; if confined in a fenced area, she can and has climbed over fences over 6' tall. She also is acquainted with ways to get under fences. What we don't know is whether Monica would be inclined to escape if she were in a happy home. We have observed numerous times that dogs fully able to escape won't do so if they're happy and bonded with their owners in their home situation. Initially it would be necessary for her to be carefully monitored by family members who would be with her constantly for a period of time, then perhaps gradually leaving for short periods. We would also far prefer to place Monica in a home not located on or near any busy streets or highways, just in case. Monica has been fine on leash and good with most large male dogs she has lived with.  However, a brief adoption failed because she showed a lot of reactivity on leash towards other dogs and she couldn't socialize with them either.  She will most likely be able to live with a male dog but wouldn't enjoy dogs she doesn't know.
