Dobie Rescue finally had a booth at last weekend's pet expo and we had a blast! The dog's were wonderfully behaved (although they slept most of the time) and we got plenty of generous donations. We enjoyed meeting so many dobie lovers and all of the other vendors. We also learned a lot about what works and what doesn't so we're looking forward to an even better booth next year. If you have any interest in volunteering with us at these types of events in the future please send us an e-mail at LeapsandBounds@hughes.net. We can use all the help we can get. Â

Aggressive Delta and Leash-Fearing Dong-Dong
Season 7 | Episode 15 | Delta and Dong-Dong
February 4 at 8 PM ET/PT
Sherrel Grabler and Lynne Haines rescued Delta from a local shelter in January of 2006, shortly after Lynne had been involved in a car accident. They thought Delta would be perfect for keeping Lynn positive during her recovery. They knew Delta was afraid of men and had been victim of animal cruelty, but had no idea how these issues would manifest. One day, Delta bit a contractor working in the house and started attacking the window whenever someone would pass by their home. Since then, the couple has had difficulties containing their dog, and Lynne is fearful that Delta’s strength will cause more severe injuries. Cesar travels to Long Beach, California to help these women reel in Delta’s aggressive attitude.
And Dong-Dong is a black and white Border collie mix who was rescued from a shelter in Taiwan. Since Taiwan has nearly 2 million strays, and black dogs are considered bad luck, the Taiwan Universal Animal Protection Association paid for Dong-Dong to travel to the United States in hopes that he might have a better life. It was then that Rhonda Scarborough found her dream dog. When Rhonda first brought Dong-Dong home, he ran away. Fortunately with the help of neighbors, friends, and family, the Scarboroughs were able to get Dong-Dong back. It was then that Dong Dong found solace in a living room chair. He won’t get up for anything, does not like the leash, started gaining weight, and even got bed sores from sitting in the chair so much. Dong-Dong is afraid of the leash, but without it, the Scarboroughs can’t trust Dong-Dong to go outside. Can Cesar change this dog’s luck and get him out of his chair of solitude?
Dong Dong on the Dog Whisperer
I deeply apologize for not getting this posted before the episode originally aired. The good news is that there are always re-runs of the show playing so please stay tuned. Dong Dong was a border collie mix that we got from a rescue group in Taiwan called TUAPA. We have gotten over a dozen dogs from them and are happy to help such a wonderful organization out. He was always a shy dog but got lucky one day when a volunteer fell in love with his big, brown eyes. They had a few problems with him once they got him home and got help from Cesar Millan himself. His crew also came out to the ranch to interview Ardis. Keep an eye out for the episode featuring sweet Dong Dong. Here's a short episode synopsis until then. Enjoy!
Dobies and Little Paws Rescue is joining the Facebook community!
We have been considering having a facebook page for quite some time now but never made the plunge until now. When facebook first started it was used mostly by high school students, college, students, and other members of the younger crowd. Now facebook has transformed into a complete network of people, businesses, and organizations. After researching other rescue's facebook pages we decided to go for it. We'd like to invite all of our supporters to use the page as a resource for staying in touch with us. We would love to see updates and pictures of our dogs in new homes. Its also another place for us to post our adoptable dogs in hopes that some networking can be done and maybe a new home can be found for some of them. Also, if you have any questions you can post them there. It might be a good place to get feedback from not only us, but other adopters as well. Like the old saying, "two heads are better then one". We will also be posting fundraisers and upcoming events there as well. Even if you aren't a big Facebook user, we could use your support. Click on the link here or search for Dobies and Little Paws Rescue. Once on the page, click the "Like" button and leave a friendly hello. I have to stress that this is a page for positivity and support. Absolutely NO harassment will be allowed. Â
Thank you again for your support and we look forward to hearing from all of you!
Join us! We will be in booth 769 at America's Family Pet Expo in Orange County. You can check out the website for the expo at www.petexpooc.org for all of the event's information. We need help all 3 days handling dogs, collecting donations, and handing out newsletters. The more help we have, the more everyone can enjoy themselves and check out the expo.
If you can help then please let us know! You can contact our event coordinator at LeapsandBounds@hughes.net for all the information. It is the pet event of the year and we promise you don't want to miss it! Hope to see you all there!!
Paula Cwikly will be hosting another Deck the Halls with Bones and Balls party for us on Sunday, December 18th, starting at 3 p.m in Toluca Lake. As in previous years, the party will feature appetizers, beverages, and great company from our circle of dog lovers and her circle of TV personalities, some of which are also adopters of ours. There is no admission other than to bring a nice gift for our dogs. Please confirm with her that you're coming by e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org, or by phone: 818-985-5698. See you there!
