Tyson came to our attention when he was being seen at an emergency hospital for an intestinal blockage. His owner planned to take him back home because he couldn't afford the surgery to remove the blockage, but the dog would have died a painful death, so the owners were persuaded to allow him to be relinquished to us so that he could hopefully be saved. The blockage had apparently occurred several days before, as the veterinarian was told that Tyson hadn't been feeling well for about five days. Thankfully, he pulled through the surgery and has made an excellent recovery. His ex-owners were fond of him but ill-prepared to take care of his needs, so physical condition was fair at best with a dry coat and calluses. Though we were led to believe Tyson isn't good with any other dogs, he has tolerated some dogs well during his stay with us, so he probably was displaying protectiveness of the adults and children in his previous home.
