Barley is back with us after his owners painfully decided they just weren't the right home for him any longer.  Below is what they had to say about him:

“It saddens me but it is necessary to find a new and loving home for our sweet, goofy Barley. He is a loving goofball who enjoys being active and with his people. Add some treats, space for exercise, and he will be living a fulfilled life.

Barley is a black and tan male who is approximately 4 to 5 year old, 85 lb., and neutered. He has been with us for just over a year. However, our household and commitments do not allow us to give him the time and attention that he needs to live a happy life. He is a dog with lots of energy who is motivated by treats and food. Barley has a solid foundation of basic commands and leash skills, but needs a person (or people) with consistent direction to ensure that he focuses on what is asked of him. He loves to play fetch and a variety of games that stimulate his mind. Barley is also fully housebroken, crate trained, and not food aggressive.

Barley is good with some dogs and people, but he is not good with all dogs or people. If there are other pets in the household, it will need to be determined whether or not he would be compatible with them. He can be startled or distracted by loud noises, strangers, or other distractions. Since there is inconsistency with things that startle or agitate him, it is not recommended that he be in a home with children. Having a person that helps him focus and maintain his calm when agitated could be a key to success."

It recently came to our attention that Barley will probably do best with a single adult male owner, as he exhibited some behavior indicating he was not comfortable with a specific woman in the home that surrendered him.
