Ok, so this guy isn’t a Doberman or a “little paw” but he somehow found his way here to our rescue. Meet Goliath! One day a couple of months ago we found not one, but THREE stray dogs during our daily travels and Goliath was one of those strays. (Keep in mind that we are usually unable to take in strays but these dogs just happened to find us at the right time) He and a smaller female had been roaming the orchards for days, maybe longer, and no one knew who they belonged to. It was believed they had been dumped and Goliath was in terrible condition. We contacted animal control, held them for their stray hold but no owner ever came forward. In the meantime, we had to slowly nurse this big guy back to health. He was so thin we could feel every bone in his body. Over the last 2 months we have gotten him up to a healthy, but still lean, 107 pounds. His DNA test showed that he is a mix of Anatolian Shepherd and Great Pyrenees, both livestock guardian breeds. He is very sweet with people but he also knows his size and strength and will need a physically capable home. Goliath will need a home with a good fence, a good sized yard, and someone dedicated to his training so he can be a well behaved member of the family. We do not know his behavior with children so we are recommending him for a home with older kids or just adults. He has been good around large female dogs but not males and he should eat separately. The starvation he endured has made food a high level resource for him and he will guard it from other dogs. We think he’s about 3 years old and may put on another 10-15 pounds of muscle.
