Possum captured our hearts and needed a lot of extra help. It was during the fires raging through LA that we saw her video being networked. She was in Riverside county, nowhere near Los Angeles, but she was a victim of some kind of fire with burns on her face, head, belly, flanks and all four legs/feet. She needed rescue asap and we were compelled to help. Possum was only 4 months old at the time, terrified, shut down and in a lot of pain. We have experience with burns so after being cleared for home care by our vet, we got to work. It took time for her to trust and for each layer of skin to heal but we took her recovery one day at a time. Possum (named affectionately because she really did kind of look like one) is an absolute love and though she obsessively loves her foster mom, she is now starting to trust new people. She is energetic and does better with male dogs and we aren't recommending her for a home with young children. She is around 9 months old now (as of late May 2025) and a compact 45 pounds.
